- Korg DS-8 Protocol for Music-X

-
- About the Korg DS-8 Protocol:
- -----------------------------
-
- First of all, make sure that you set both the Exclusive status of the
- DS-8 and the Program select to ON (Function 8 on the panel.) You should
- also set the Internal Memory protect to OFF if you are going to send any
- new patches to the Korg. Put the DS-8 in Single mode to use this
- protocol.
-
- As this is currently written, this protocol expects the MIDI channel
- on the Korg to be set to 16 ( I did this because of my other keyboards
- tied into the MIDI lines.) You may change this by changing the THIRD
- byte in the Prefix string to something other than 3F. A value of 30
- will send on MIDI Channel 1, 31 will send on Channel 2, on up to 3F
- sending Channel 16. Using the Channel Buttons across the top of the
- Librarian Screen will make no difference, nor will the status of the
- Preview button. Just select the program you wish to receive with the
- Program # gadget and hit the receive button.
-
- This protocol automatically causes the Korg to select the desired
- patch as the current working patch. It then will receive that patch.
- When sending, it will write the patch into the selected program's
- internal memory.
-
- Note that the name may appear to be screwed up! Well, it is and it
- isn't. Music-X apparently does not clear out the Name Buffer area
- properly, so you will see extra characters that do not belong with the
- name. This can be a real pain, so just select the name with the cursor,
- clear it out, and re-receive the patch. At this point you should see the
- correct name. Also note that there will ALWAYS be a space in the eighth
- character. THIS IS CORRECT, and is due to the way the Korg displays
- it's patch names.
-
- Hope this helps out- I just wish I could figure out how to patch in a
- home-brew patch editor!! This does really help for making and sorting
- out your favorite libraries.
-
-
- GOOD LUCK!
